Crumb Cake 🍰
A classic crumb cake has a soft, buttery cake base topped with a thick layer of sweet cinnamon crumbs. It’s perfect with coffee for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
For the Crumb Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 6 tbsp melted butter
For the Cake
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup butter (softened)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup sour cream or yogurt
- ¼ cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch baking pan. - Make the crumb topping
In a bowl mix flour, brown sugar, sugar, and cinnamon.
Add melted butter and stir until crumbly. Set aside. - Prepare dry ingredients
In another bowl whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. - Cream butter and sugar
Beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. - Add eggs and vanilla
Mix in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. - Combine batter
Add the dry ingredients alternately with sour cream and milk. Mix until smooth. - Assemble the cake
Spread batter in the pan and sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over it. - Bake
Bake 35–40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Cool and serve
Let cool for about 15 minutes, then slice.
Optional Glaze
Mix and drizzle on top:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk
- ¼ tsp vanilla
